Nasolabial Folds
The lines that form from the nose to the mouth, also called smile lines, can be a particular problem for some people. Sometimes this is something that runs in the family. Smoking can also exacerbate the appearance of these lines due to the repeated pursing action in the mouth area.
The result of severe nose to mouth lines is to create quite deep creases which are very noticeable. The shadow that forms here can give the impression of a droop or simply a distraction from the eyes and mouth. Softening or removing the shadow can take years off. This treatment often works best in combination with restoration of the cheeks.
Our mouth is particularly susceptible to the development of wrinkles, as it contains numerous muscles that are essential for our facial expressions. As we age, our skin naturally sags and becomes less elastic as collagen production reduces in the cheeks. This causes deep folds to form.
A procedure with fillers is a very low-risk and non-invasive option to restore lost volume in the skin and get rid of wrinkles such as laugh lines. During the procedure, our highly skilled aesthetic practitioner will inject the filler into the cheek area to smooth and get rid of the nasolabial folds. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and the effects can last up to 6 months.
While injectable fillers are generally not painful, our filler products contain lidocaine that numbs the area to help with any slight discomfort. If you are very worried about pain, patients can also opt to have a numbing cream applied to the injection areas to ensure a pain-free experience. Nasolabial folds are often treated alongside other eras of the face that are affected by lost volume including tear troughs (under-eyes) and marionette lines (facial wrinkles from the mouth along the chin).
- Restore lost volume in the skin.
- Smoothen and improve the appearance of deep folds.
- Fresher and more youthful appearance.
A numbing cream will be used for 20 minutes prior to the procedure to help minimise any initial discomfort. The injection itself also contains lidocaine (numbing) within the product to ease pain of injection. This treatment is non-invasive with minimal downtime. You can continue your normal daily activity straight after, however, you must avoid applying any makeup to the treated area to help prevent infection.
After our aesthetic practitioner inject the nasolabial folds with fillers, it is common to experience some swelling, redness or bruising around the treatment site. These minor effects will fade after a few days. Swelling can be helped with initial cooling.
