Excessive Sweating - Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating that can occur with men and women equally. It affects 3 in 100 British people and can become a serious burden if everyday life is affected by it. Excessive sweating commonly appears in armpits, hands, feet, or face. This condition can be treated by our aesthetic practitioner at Aesthetica using injections of muscle relaxants.

Sweat is one of the most common functions of the human body. For many of us, antiperspirant is enough to tackle the issue. However, for others, antiperspirant is not enough.

Excess sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition that affects many people, which causes them to sweat more than the normal amount in an effort to regulate body temperature. This condition occurs in various areas of the body, most commonly in the underarm area. Other affected areas include the face, the hands and the feet.

Overactive sweating is not life-threatening, however it can be embarrassing for those affected and can also exacerbate skin conditions like eczema and tinea. Common causes of extreme sweating include stress, menopause, side effects of medication and changes in body temperature. Other causes include conditions such as obesity, and diabetes.

Excessive hand, face, feet and underarm sweating can be treated with targeted injections of muscle relaxants. After a consultation with our aesthetic practitioner, the treatment areas will be injected with muscle relaxants, which block the sweat glands so that they can no longer be reached by nerve impulses. As a result, sweat glands are put into a more relaxed state and sweat is no longer seen or felt at the surface of the skin.

Anti-sweat treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes. The results can last up to 6 months.
